The Turkish Interior Minister Muammer Güler recently commented on a proposed internet law, saying the bill is designed to halt online “terrorism.” The Interior Ministry is working with the Justice Ministry to implement the law that they hope will allow for easier prosecution of individuals who ” publish false and provocative online posts.” The measure comes amid rumors that Twitter is working with the Turkish government and suspending the accounts of people who tweet against the the current regime. Twitter has denied the allegations and recently revealed they have in fact seen a 40 percent increase in government requests for user data in just the first 6 months of 2013.
