The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is planning to test whether it is possible to support plant life on the Moon beginning in late 2015. NASA plans to use a sealed growth chamber for germination of up to 100 seeds Aribadopsis and 10 seeds each of basil and turnips. The study, the first of its kind, will also look at the effects of radiation on lunar germination. NASA stated that this effort is an important step towards human habitats on the Moon.
