In the wake of the NSA spying scandal major internet companies have called on the government to allow them to release information related to the number of requests for data. Google sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder and FBI Director Robert Mueller, claiming the release of the information would show how often Google complied with and denied requests. Microsoft and Facebook have also issued similar statements. Initial reports indicated that the NSA had tapped directly into the central servers of nine U.S. Internet companies: Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Yahoo, AOL, Skype, YouTube, Apple and PalTalk.
