Greek Teachers Fight Austerity, Launch Strikes

Monday in Greece a week of strikes to protest planned layoffs of public sector employees began around the nation. The teachers, and public hospital doctors are staging protests in preparation for an inspection meeting next week by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. State workers marched through the streets of Athens chanting, “kick the government, the EU and the IMF out!” as police fired teargas at school guards who attempted to force their way into the nations reforms ministry.
