“No Longer an Emergency”: Trudeau Revokes Canada’s Emergencies Act Before Senate Can Vote on It
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is revoking (https://globalnews.ca/news/8639534/justin-trudeau-emergencies-act-announcement/) the Emergencies Act after ten days now that the Freedom Convoy protests and blockades have ended.
Trudeau made the announcement to end the use of the emergency powers at a press conference on Wednesday (Feb. 23), before the Senate even had an opportunity to vote on the act and just two days after it passed the House of Commons.
“Today, after careful consideration, we’re ready to confirm that the situation is no longer an emergency,” he said. “Therefore, the federal government will be ending the use of the Emergencies Act.”
If it had not been revoked, the state of emergency was set to remain in effect for 30 days from February 14.
Several of the leading organizers and figures in the movement are now behind bars.

A British Columbia member of Parliament detailed (https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/mp-mark-strahl-convoy-protest-briane-bank-account-frozen-1.6360132) on Monday (Feb. 21) how one of his constituents had her bank account frozen by the Canadian government for donating $50 to the Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa.
In a tweet, Chilliwack-Hope MP Mark Strahl described (https://twitter.com/markstrahl/status/1495472037438967808) the woman as “a single mom from Chilliwack working a minimum wage job” named Briane.
“She gave $50 to the convoy when it was 100% legal. She hasn’t participated in any other way. Her bank account has now been frozen. This is who Justin Trudeau is actually targeting with his Emergencies Act orders,” Strahl said (https://twitter.com/markstrahl/status/1495472037438967808).
This is just one of hundreds, if not thousands, of bank accounts frozen. However, the exact number is unknown because—despite the demands of MPs—Trudeau’s government will not provide further information.

Lich has been described (https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-press-newsalert-ottawa-protest-organizer-tamara-lich-denied-bail) by fellow organizers as “the spark that lit the fire” of the Freedom Convoy protest. “I cannot be reassured that if I release you into the community that you will not reoffend,” Ontario Court Justice Julie Bourgeois said. “Your detention is necessary for the protection and safety of the public.” Lich faces a charge of mischief, meaning she faces up to 10 years in prison. “The accused is liable, upon conviction, a lengthy term of imprisonment,” the judge noted.

The family of Ghislaine Maxwell say they fear for her safety after model agent Jean-Luc Brunel was found hanged in his Paris prison cell on Saturday. Maxwell, who was convicted last year of sex trafficking, allegedly introduced Brunel to billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who was found hanging in his Manhattan lockup in August 2019.
It’s really shocking,” Ian Maxwell, one of Ghislaine’s siblings, told The Post. “Another death by hanging in a high-security prison. My reaction is one of total shock and bewilderment.” In an interview from his home in London, Maxwell said the family “fears for her safety” at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn where she is being held.
