Federal Judge Upholds warrantless search, “constitution free” zone along the border

On Tuesday U.S. District Judge Edward Korman in New York ruled that the government can continue to search laptops, and other electronic devices within the “border exemption”. The American Civil Liberties Union originally brought the case forward 3 years ago, challenging the governments ability to create a fourth amendment free zone on national security threats. The program of warrantless searches up to 100 miles inland from the border began under President George W. Bush and has continued under the Obama administration.
