On September 26th U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh decided that Google may be in violation of federal and California wiretapping laws for keyword scanning of Gmail messages related to advertising. Google had sought to have the federal case dismissed but Judge Koh’s decision means the case can go forward although no date has been set. The decision sets a precedent for federal and state wiretapping laws to be applied to the internet.
