FDA Begins Database for Tracking Medical Implants

On Friday the Food and Drug Administration announced new rules that will require most new medical devices sold in the United States to possess a unique tracking code. The code will identify the devices make, manufacture date, and lot number. The tracking codes will be stored in a public database that is designed to help regulators and doctors catch problems with implants.
