Glyphosate

Despite a number of published studies on the negative health effects of Glyphosate the Environmental Protection Agency has changed regulations for the acceptable amount of the chemical. The new regulations changes the levels of allowable glyphosate contamination levels for root crops, oilseed crops as well as fruits. Citizens are encourage to comment on the topic until July 1st.

These changes come on the heels of another study which found traces of glyphosate in the urine of residents of 18 European states. The study found 44 percent of volunteers contaminated with the chemical but it remains unclear exactly how the herbicide made its way into their systems. Glyphosate was discovered to be a herbicide by Monsanto chemist John E. Franz in 1970. Monsanto brought it to market in the 1970s under the trade name Roundup.
