Community activists start urban hop garden in Minneapolis

BY: Derrick Broze

The Minnesota Beer Activists have begun building what they believe is the nation’s only urban beer garden. Led by 33 year old St. Paul resident Andrew Schmitt, the group describes itself as “a consumer group whose mission is to engage consumers in education, legislation and community participation regarding beer, wine and spirits in Minnesota.” Schmitt established the idea which created the Longfellow Community Hop Garden, a newly established community garden that will be volunteer ran. All volunteers will take a share of hops home.
