On Monday British Prime Minister David Cameron revealed a new plan to protect children from exploitation and exposure to pornography. The plan involves adding adult content filters on phones, public wi-fi networks and home computers by the end of the year. Internet Service Providers will voluntarily install the filters so no parliamentary action is needed. Critics argue that it is impossible to completely filter the internet and that “false positives” will be created, blocking inoffensive content. By 2014 anyone setting up a broadband internet connection will have the filters as the default setting. This move is expected to affect the majority of Britians internet using population as the ISP’s that have signed on for the plan serve roughly nine out of the 10 homes in Great Britian.
