On Thursday 13 members of the hacking collective Anonymous were indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly attacking websites worldwide in retaliation and defense of WikiLeaks and Julian Assange. The indictment accuses the members of Anonymous of participating in a campaign of attacks known as Operation Payback from September 2010 to January 2011. The defendants are accused of attacking computer systems of governments, law firms, financial institutions such as Mastercard and other organizations that opposed Anonymous’ methods and that refused to proces payments to Wikileak.
